Music in Healthcare

I’m passionate about bringing high-quality, interactive musical experiences to people who otherwise would have limited access to music making in their everyday lives.  This has taken me into settings such as geriatric wards and dementia facilities, special schools, and children and adult hospital wards and mental health centres. For more information about the benefits of music in healthcare for patients and healthcare settings, please click here for a report about the 2011 Medical Notes project at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

In a training role, I can help musicians to interact with others through music. I’m currently a Mentor on the Medical Notes Programme at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, and have also mentored student musicians at the Royal Northern College of Music. I have a particular interest in facilitating and training healthcare staff to add music to their own work, at a level they are confident with.

I have worked with the following organisations in community settings: Royal Northern College of Music, Central Manchester Foundation Trust, Jessie’s Fund, The Seashell Trust, BLUSci and Opera North.

I’ve received training in this field from the Royal Northern College of Music, Musique et Sante, Jessie’s Fund and various qualified practitioners around the UK and Ireland.

I’m always looking for places I can bring music making into, if you are interested in making music in your healthcare or community setting, please drop me a line!
